In some parts of the US, reports said that gas will be headed to eight dollars this year. In others, it’s six dollars. It’s this kind of environment that the Prius was actually built for.

Should you worry about the battery pack on a used Toyota Prius

Car batteries are toxic things. They are full of lead or nickel, acid, plastic – it’s hardly garden fertilizer. The good thing about the Prius though is that it uses nickel in its  batteries which is less toxic than lead. Nickel isn’t that great either though – it happens to be carcinogenic.

Every carmaker is really serious these days about recycling the batteries in their cars.Companies like Toyota actually have a reward program for anyone who brings a battery in for recycling – there is a $200 bounty. Once they do get a used battery, they will strip out every single thing in it – from plastic and rubber to acid to lead or nickel. And they will reuse it or dispose all that properly.

The good news with the battery in the Prius is that  it’ll last between 8and 10 years. That’s more than twice as long as a standard battery. For all your questions about the Toyota Prius battery take a look at A short guide to the battery pack on a used Toyota Prius.
